How the ATP and WTA Rankings Work

Both tours rank players on a rolling 52 week points system, best 18 results for ATP men, 16 WTA tournaments plus the WTA Finals for women. Grand Slams award 2000 points to the champion, Masters 1000 events 1000.

Weekly rankings decide seedings, entry and the year end Finals. Chris Evert became the first computer number one in 1975, Nastase the first ATP number one in 1973.

Longevity records belong to Djokovic, over 400 weeks at the top..
