Madrid Open
Clay at altitude in the Caja Magica since 2002
Overview
The Madrid Open began in 2002 for men and 2009 as a combined event in the Manzanares Park arena complex, the Caja Magica with three show courts under sliding roofs. At 650 meters altitude the clay plays faster than Rome or Monte Carlo. Rafael Nadal won five titles, and the event pioneered blue clay experiments in 2012.
