Marat Safin
Crushed Pete Sampras in the 2000 US Open final
Overview
Safin overwhelmed Pete Sampras in straight sets to win the 2000 US Open at 20 and briefly became world number one. Injuries and inconsistency followed, but in 2005 he beat Roger Federer in a classic Australian Open semifinal and went on to win the title. Charismatic and volatile, he later entered politics in Russia and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
