The Aboriginal Australian with the silken game won seven major singles titles, including Wimbledon titles in 1971 and 1980 and the French in 1971. Her natural timing and movement were admired by every rival, and she won four home Australian Opens between 1974 and 1977. She later captained Australian Fed Cup teams.
