Pancho Gonzales
Pancho, world professional champion through most of the 1950s
Overview
Gonzales won the US amateur title in 1948 and 1949, turned pro, and ruled the professional tour for about a decade, world professional champion for seven straight years in the 1950s, an era when pros were banned from the majors. His serve was the fastest of his century and his pride fiercer still. Many old timers rank him among the greatest who ever played.
