Roy Emerson
Emmo, 12 Grand Slam singles titles, the record before the Open Era
Overview
Emerson held the men record of 12 major singles titles from 1967 until Sampras passed it in 2000, winning every major at least twice. He was equally great in doubles with 16 major crowns, 28 in total, still the men record. He dominated amateur tennis in the 1960s and later captained Australia, the last great champion of the amateur age.
