John McEnroe
Mac, seven majors and an 82-3 season in 1984
Overview
McEnroe won three Wimbledon and four US Open titles with the softest hands in tennis, magical touch, deft angles and inventive serve. In 1984 he went 82-3, one of the greatest seasons ever, though the French final against Lendl slipped away. His rivalry with Borg defined the early 1980s, and his temper made linesmen famous. He never conquered Roland Garros.
