Overview
Connolly won the US Championships at 16 in 1951 and took Wimbledon three straight years from 1952. In 1953 she swept all four majors in a single season, the first woman to complete the calendar Grand Slam, losing only one set along the way. A horse riding accident in 1954 ended her career at 19. She died of cancer in 1969 at 34.
